The President of the Union of Greek Shipowners, Mr. Theodoros Veniamis, made a special reference to the prospects of development of the ship building and ship repairing sector in Greece, at the 7th Export Summit of the Greek Exporters Association on “Fostering Maritime Economy” – Marine-Blue Economy, Thessaloniki, Greece.
He stressed that the industry which for many years had encountered serious problems, is now recovering with Neorion Syros Shipyards operating very efficiently. In fact, he appointed the shipyard of Syros as the locomotive of the shipbuilding and ship repairing development in Greece.
He also predicted that “we will experience enormous growth in the ship building industry in the port of Thessaloniki and other ports of Northern Greece for the years to come” due to the liberalization of ship building and ship repairing all over Greece.
The President of UGS, after praising the position of Greek-owned shipping globally, exemplified its strength by stating that “the world’s largest area of ship ownership is located at the Athens-Piraeus grid”, basically because of the informal cluster that already exists and added that Thessaloniki should also follow this track of development
